The KONG is dead. Long live the King!


Como parte de una generación de diseñadores y sobre todo de un grupo de amigos, es para nosotros una verdadera tristeza dar este tipo de noticias. Sobre todo cuando estamos hablando de uno de los pilares en el movimiento del diseño gráfico en México.

Así es, es oficial. El día de hoy hace apenas unos cuantos minutos de manera oficial se anuncia el cierre de la tienda KONG. Sin más palabras. La noticia la recibimos los amigos mas cercanos al proyecto, mediante una llamada telefónica , esto fue desde la semana pasada. Triste noticia, desconcertante y sobre todo haciendo una reflexión de muchas cosas que realmente significo la tienda KONG. No solo era el lugar donde podíamos ir a comprar un producto o articulo de diseño. Fue el motor que motivo a que la gente se animara a producir desde un sencillo pin up hasta un vinyl toy. Era el pretexto perfecto para congregarse alrededor de las exposiciones, charlara un poco con aquellas personas que llevamos ya bastantes años en esto, de igual manera servía para que las nuevas generaciones tuvieran un acercamiento con la gente que rodeaba al proyecto. Tengo que decir de manera personal que KONG, fue para mi ese espacio que me animo invertir en mis trabajos para compartir con la gente, el motivo de hacer algo que quizá muchos ahora lo ven como parte del trabajo diario del diseñador, que es producir sus ideas.

También se convirtió en el espacio que se volvió referencia en el mundo, esto lo puedo decir con toda certeza y de primera mano, porque en el viaje que hicimos a estados unidos el año pasado, al platicar con algunas personalidades del mundo del diseño, el low brown, hacían mención algunos de la tienda KONG.

¿Que seguirá ahora? porque siendo sinceros, aunque hay mas espacio, no existe uno con la presencia y con las características que giraban entorno al concepto. Pero sobre todo, que tuvieran la calidad y continuidad; en cuanto a las exposiciones y expositores se refiere.

Queda un espacio vacío en la escena del diseño en México. Pero sabemos que estas 4 personalidades que conformaron KONG, aún tienen muchas cosas que aportar. Y como cerraba Clarisa la platica telefónica: "esperamos verlos en algún otro proyecto".

Le deseamos lo mejor en sus proyectos futuros a CHA, CLARISA, JORGE Y QUIQUE, y recordarles que siempre podrán contar con nosotros, sus amigos.

As part of a generation of designers and especially a group of friends, it is a real sadness to this kind of news. Especially when talking about one of the pillars in the movement of graphic design in Mexico.

PARA DE ESTA MANERA REAFIRMAR NUESTRO GUSTO POR LAS ARTES Y LA EXPRESION GRAFICA Y PLASTICA.
